All three species face a very high risk of extinction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What are the characteristics of Orangutans?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The major characteristics of Orangutans include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>They are <strong>arboreal mammals<\/strong> and spend most of their time in trees.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>They are the <strong>largest tree-dwelling mammals<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Moreover, they have long, powerful arms and grasping hands and feet.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>They generally live a <strong>semi-solitary lifestyle<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Their diet mainly consists of fruits, but they also eat leaves, bark, insects and other food.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Notably, they play an important role as <strong>seed dispersers<\/strong>, supporting forest regeneration.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Adult males may develop large cheek pads and throat sacs that help produce long-distance calls.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Orangutans show advanced learning and tool-use abilities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Orangutans Habitat and Distribution<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Today, wild Orangutans occur only on <strong>Borneo and Sumatra<\/strong>. Borneo is shared by <strong>Indonesia, Malaysia and Brunei<\/strong>, while Sumatra belongs to Indonesia. They occupy tropical rainforests, including lowland and peat-swamp forests.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Their dependence on forests makes them highly vulnerable to habitat destruction.
