UPSC Eligibility

How Many Attempts for UPSC by Category

Permissible attempts are determined by your category and age limit. An attempt is registered the moment you appear for even one paper in the Preliminary Examination.

General (UR) 6 Attempts Limit: 32 Years
OBC Category 9 Attempts Limit: 35 Years
SC / ST Category Unlimited Limit: 37 Years
PwBD (General) 9 Attempts Limit: 42 Years

What Counts as an Attempt?

Clarity on UPSC regulations is vital. The following scenarios do not exhaust your permissible attempts:

  • Absent from all papers of the Preliminary Exam.
  • Application rejected by UPSC due to ineligibility.
  • Disqualified for using unfair means in Prelims.
