Mizoram Public Service Commission Combined Competitive Examination (MPSC): Exam Overview

The Mizoram Public Service Commission Combined Competitive Examination (MPSC CSE) is conducted by the Mizoram Public Service Commission (MPSC). This examination is to recruit candidates for various administrative positions in the state government. This examination follows a three-stage selection process: 

  • Preliminary Examination
  • Mains Examination
  • Interview

1. Citizenship and Residency Requirements

The Mizoram Public Service Commission has laid down some specific criteria regarding the citizenship and residency of candidates, including:

a. You must be a citizen of India, as per Articles 5 to 7 of the Indian Constitution.

b. Additionally, you must be a permanent resident of Mizoram. However, candidates whose parents or ancestors in direct lineage are permanent residents of Mizoram are also eligible. Such candidates must provide valid documentary proof, such as:

  • Enrolment in the Electoral Roll
  • Birth Certificate

2. Age Limit Criteria

The age criteria for Mizoram PSC vary based on category and service status. The general age limits are as follows:

It is important to mention that for recruitment advertisements made during 2023 and 2024, the upper age limit has been extended to 37 years. 

The Commission will accept only the date of birth recorded in the High School or Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate as valid proof. No requests for changes or other documents like horoscopes, affidavits, birth extracts, or service records will be considered.

Candidates who have completed three years of continuous service in the Mizoram State Government are subject to an upper age limit of 40 years. For candidates belonging to SC/ST categories, the upper age limit is 45 years. This applies regardless of the type of employment, including regular, work-charged, contract, provisional, or ad hoc/officiating positions.

3. Educational Qualification

To apply for Mizoram PSC, you must hold at least a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university. In addition, 

  • Final-year graduation students can also apply.
  • Must have basic knowledge of the Mizo language at the middle school level.

4. Computer Proficiency Requirement

  • Computer proficiency is not mandatory at the time of applying.
  • However, for group ‘A’, ‘B’, and ‘C’ posts, candidates must acquire the prescribed computer proficiency during the probation period. Failure to do so will result in disqualification from confirmation in service.

5. Language Requirement

Candidates must have a working knowledge of the Mizo language at least at the Middle School standard.

6. Reservation for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD)

  • The eligibility criteria for PwBD candidates will be in accordance with The Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016.
  • Candidates with Multiple Disabilities will be eligible for reservation under Section 34(1)(e) of the RPwD Act, 2016.
  • However, such candidates will not be eligible for reservation under any other categories (Section 34(1)(a) to (d)) if they have 40% or more impairment in any of these categories.
  • Additional functional classification and physical requirements may be prescribed by the State Government.

7. Application Fee

Candidates must pay an application fee as prescribed by the Mizoram PSC. However, candidates belonging to the Persons with Disabilities (PwBD) category are exempted from paying the application fee.

8. Eligibility of Final Year Students

  • Candidates who have appeared for the final examination of a degree course from a recognized university but whose results have not been declared can appear for the Preliminary Examination.
  • If such candidates qualify for the Main Examination, they must provide proof of passing their degree examination before the last date of application for the Main Examination.
  • Failure to provide proof within the stipulated time will lead to disqualification from the Main Examination.

1. Mizoram PSC Prelims Exam Pattern

The Mizoram PSC Prelims exam is the first battle you have to conquer to become an administrative officer in your state. The exam consists of two papers. Each carries 200 marks and is held for a 2-hour time duration.

After qualifying the Prelims stage, the Mains Exam is the second stage of the selection process. The Mains exam consists of a written exam and an interview.
