All India Services
Indian Administrative Service (IAS)
- One of the three All India Services.
- Permanent arm of the Central and State Governments.
- Responsible for policy formulation and implementation.
- IAS officers begin training at LBSNAA, Mussoorie.
Indian Police Service (IPS)
- One of the three All India Services.
- IPS officers are trained at SVPNPA, Hyderabad.
- Serve in senior police roles across India.
- Also work in agencies like CBI, RAW, IB, etc.
Indian Forest Service (IFoS)
- One of the three All India Services.
- Under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
- The highest post at the Centre is: Director General of Forests.
- Highest post in the States: Principal Chief Conservator of Forests.
- IFoS officers may also work in global bodies like the FAO.
Group ‘A’ Services
Indian Foreign Service (IFS)
- Handles India’s foreign affairs and diplomacy.
- Training begins at LBSNAA and continues at the Foreign Service Institute, New Delhi.
- IFS officers serve as Ambassadors, High Commissioners, and at the UN.
- Once selected, candidates cannot reappear for the Civil Services Exam.
Indian Audit and Accounts Service (IA&AS)
- Comes under the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG).
- Responsible for auditing Central, State Governments, and PSUs.
- Trained at NAAA, Shimla.
Indian Civil Accounts Service (ICAS)
- Functions under the Ministry of Finance.
- Headed by the Controller General of Accounts.
- Trained at NIFM, Faridabad, and INGAF.
Indian Corporate Law Service (ICLS)
- Works under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs.
- Regulates India’s corporate sector.
- Training at ICLS Academy, IICA Manesar.
Indian Defence Accounts Service (IDAS)
- Under the Ministry of Defence.
- Handles defence auditing and accounts.
- Training at CENTRAD (Delhi), NIFM, and NADFM (Pune).
- Works in DRDO, BRO, Ordnance Factories.
Indian Defence Estates Service (IDES)
- Manages cantonments and defence lands.
- Trained at the National Institute of Defence Estates, New Delhi.
Indian Information Service (IIS)
- Media and communication wing of the Government.
- Under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
- Trained at IIMC.
- Work in DD, AIR, PIB, etc.
Indian Ordnance Factories Service (IOFS)
- Manages the production of arms, ammunition, and defence equipment.
- Under the Ministry of Defence.
- Training at the National Academy of Defence Production, Nagpur.
Indian Communication Finance Services (ICFS)
- Formerly IP&TAFS.
- Provides accounting and financial services for the Posts and Telecom Departments.
- Training at NIFM, Faridabad.
Indian Postal Service (IPoS)
- Manages the operations of India Post.
- Trained at RAKNPA, Ghaziabad.
- Oversees postal, banking, e-commerce, and pension disbursal services.
Indian Railway Accounts Service (IRAS)
- Manages the finances of Indian Railways.
- Trained at NADT, Nagpur, Railway Staff College, Vadodara, and other institutes.
Indian Railway Personnel Service (IRPS)
- Handles human resource management of Indian Railways.
- Training starts at LBSNAA, followed by training at RCVP Noronha Academy, MCRHRDI, and NAIR, Vadodara.
Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS)
- Oversees operations and commercial functions of Indian Railways.
- Acts as a bridge between railways, the public, and the corporate sector.
- Trained at Railway Staff College, Vadodara, and IRITM, Lucknow.
Indian Revenue Service (IRS)
- Divided into Income Tax and Customs & Indirect Taxes.
- Functions under the Ministry of Finance.
- Training at LBSNAA, NADT, Nagpur, and NACEN, Faridabad.
- Responsible for tax collection and enforcement.
Indian Trade Service (ITS)
- Works under the Ministry of Commerce.
- Handles India’s foreign trade policy and global trade relations.
- Training at the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT), New Delhi.
Railway Protection Force (RPF)
- Paramilitary force under the Ministry of Railways.
- Provides security to passengers and protects railway property.
- Training at Jagjivan Ram RPF Academy, Lucknow.
Group ‘B’ Services
Armed Forces Headquarters Civil Service (AFHQCS)
- Offers support to the Armed Forces and Inter-Services Organizations.
- Under the Ministry of Defence.
- Headed by the Defence Secretary.
DANICS (Delhi, Andaman & Nicobar Islands Civil Service)
- Feeder service to the IAS.
- Officers serve in administrative roles in Delhi and UTs.
- The initial posting is usually as an Assistant Collector in the District Administration.
DANIPS (Delhi, Andaman & Nicobar Islands Police Service)
- The police service manages law and order in Delhi and other UTs.
- Officers may later be promoted to IPS.
Pondicherry Civil Service
- Administers civil services in the Union Territory of Puducherry.
- Recruitment through the Civil Services Exam.
Pondicherry Police Service
- Manages law enforcement in the UT of Puducherry.
- Also recruited through the Civil Services Exam.
